LADY COLONELS HOST MIDDLE TENNESSEE SATURDAY

RICHMOND, Ky. - Trying to shake a six-game losing streak, coach Larry Joe Inman's Eastern Kentucky University Lady Colonel basketball team hosts the Middle Tennessee State University Lady Raiders at 2:00 p.m. Saturday at McBrayer Arena.

Senior day activities will precede tipoff as Eastern honors three, four-year letterwinners - forward Jennifer King, center Cathy Dues, forward Shannon Browning - who will be playing their last home game for the Lady Colonels.

EKU, 11-14 overall, is ranked sixth in the latest Ohio Valley Conference standings with an 8-9 record, while MTSU comes in tied for first place in the OVC with its 13-4 mark. The Lady Raiders stand 17-8 overall and own an earlier 94-68 win over the Lady Colonels in Murfreesboro last month.

Eastern lost its sixth straight game Thursday night with an 86-69 defeat at the hands of Tennessee Tech in Alumni Coliseum. Eastern was able to come back from 15 down in the first half to only trail by five (35-30) at the break. But TTU quickly opened that lead up to 20 (56-36) in the first six and one-half minutes of the second stanza and never looked back.

"Our shots just wouldn't fall," said Inman. "We have to shoot well to be competitive and be successful. Plus, our defense in the second half wasn't good and neither was our rebounding. We've got to execute better than that against Middle or we'll be in for a long afternoon."

Eastern was led in scoring in the Tech game by sophomore forward Charlotte Sizemore and freshman guard Zoey Artist with 18 and 16 points, respectively. Candice Finley added nine points and six rebounds, Larrya Wall had seven points and seven boards and Jennifer King had six points and four rebounds.

EKU will find out where it will head Tuesday for the opening round of the OVC Tournament, following completion of Saturday's league action. UT Martin, Tennessee Tech and Middle Tennessee are all tied at the top with 13-4 OVC records, while Southeast Missouri is just behind in fourth place at 12-5.
