LADY COLONELS SNAP LOSING STREAK WITH WIN OVER AUSTIN PEAY

RICHMOND, Ky. - Coach Larry Joe Inman's Eastern Kentucky University women's basketball team will be looking for a season sweep of Tennessee State Saturday afternoon as the Lady Tigers come to McBrayer Arena for a 2:00 p.m. matchup with the Lady Colonels.

EKU got back on the winning track Thursday night when Eastern hit 50 percent from the field and outrebounded Austin Peay, 43-35, in defeating the Lady Govs, 91-79.

Eastern held a commanding 16-point lead at half (53-37) and never looked back as APSU could only cut the margin to nine points twice in the second stanza.

"Our offensive and defensive intensity was a lot better tonight. This was just overall a complete game for us," said Inman. "We put up some stats tonight that you're supposed to to win some games.

"We had good scoring from top to bottom. We worked a lot on rebounding and, tonight, you saw some good results. We had contributions up and down the lineup. Susan (Hatcher) played a great first half, while Crystal (Mason) got some big boards in that first half and played like she is capable of playing."

Senior guard Marla Gearhart scored a game-high 32 points to inch closer to the coveted 1,000-point career scoring mark. She now has 990 points at Eastern. Hatcher added 18 points, junior center Candice Finley had 15 and freshman forward Teresa McNair had 10 points and 13 rebounds.

Freshman guard Brooke Armistead had 24 for APSU, while substitute forward Jocelyn Duke had 19 points and 12 rebounds and freshman guard Paige Smith had 14 points for the Lady Govs.

Eastern, who earlier this year defeated Tennessee State in Nashville, 80-74, improved to 10-12 overall and 7-6 in the OVC. Austin Peay dropped to 11-12 and 7-7 in the league.
