LADY COLONELS DROP CONSOLATION GAME AT SEELBACH TOURNEY
RICHMOND, Ky. - The Eastern Kentucky University women's basketball team dropped behind early and could not recover, losing to Kent in the consolation game of the Seelbach Tournament, 95-56.
The Lady Colonels shot just 25 percent in the opening half, leading to a 47-20 halftime deficit. Kent, shooting 53 percent in the first half and 60 percent in the second, played a strong game at both ends of the court to earn the win.
Eastern did come out in the second half to play a much better game, connecting on 46 percent of its shots, but it came too little, too late for the Lady Colonels to make any serious run at the Kent lead.
Leading the way for the Lady Colonels was sophomore Charlotte Sizemore. The 5-11 forward scored a team-high 17 points. Senior forward Jennifer King added 11 points and six rebounds, while freshman guard Mikki Bond contributed five points and a career-best seven assists. Senior Shannon Browning came in off the bench to provide a spark as she pulled down a team-high seven rebounds and added 11 points in 17 minutes of action.
Eastern Kentucky, 4-5 overall and 1-1 in the Ohio Valley Conference, will travel to Cape Girardeau, MO, to play Southeast Missouri on Jan. 2 in a 8:00 PM CT game before heading into Illinois to take on Eastern Illinois on Jan. 4. That game is scheduled to tipoff at 5:45 PM CT.
