Murray KY - The Eastern Kentucky University Lady Colonels traveled to Murray State to take on the Lady Racers and ran into a buzz saw. After getting the first basket of the game, the Colonels never led again. The Racers ran off the next five points and never looked back. Eastern did close the gap to 51-43 with 12:26 left in the second half, but that was as close as the Colonels could get.
Murray won the game 77-55 for the first win by any of the current coaches or players over EKU. The Colonels could not put the ball in the basket as their 31.1 shooting from the field was the second worst of the season. Their 1-12 from three-point range also was the second worst on the season.
One promising note, the 88.9 shooting of free throws was their best of the season, but a downer to this was that it was the fewest throws they have shot in any game. All of this led to the second fewest points Eastern has scored all year. The Colonels did block eight of the Racers field goal attempts, which is the best for the season. The 78.4 that Murray shot from the free throw line was the second best anyone had shot against EKU and the 29-37 was the fourth and fifth most made and attempted against Eastern.
Sophomore forward Susan Hatcher had a career high night in points and rebounds as she scored ten on 5-8 from the field and had five boards in 24 minutes of action. Charlotte Sizemore scored in double figures (14) for the nineteenth time in twenty games to lead the Colonels for the tenth straight game and sixteenth time this season, but struggled from the field (6-25).
Now Eastern must travel to Nashville Tennessee to face the tough Tennessee State Lady Tigers.
