RICHMOND, Ky.-- The Eastern Kentucky University Lady Colonels continued
to have problems winning, as they fell to the University of Kentucky Wildcats
Tuesday night, 87-47. The loss was EKU's fifth in a row and drops their
record to 11-13. UK improves to 17-9. The culprit that has plagued the
Colonels lately continued, as for the seventh straight game, they made
less than 40 percent of their field goals. The Wildcats were able to make
47.7 percent of their attempts.
"Shooting hurt us. They shut us down. We need to improve. We did handle
the pressure and made more shots in the second half." said Eastern coach
Larry Joe Inman. "UK was the best team we have faced all year defensively.
Our turnovers were a factor that hurt us." Inman added. EKU committed 35
turnovers for the game, which is the most any opponent has caused all season.
Kentucky scored 47 points off of those miscues.
"We were pleased with the rebounding." Inman said. The Wildcats won
the battle of boards 45-39. UK jumped on the Colonels early, as they scored
the first 11 points of the game. At halftime, Kentucky had built its lead
to 39-15. Tiffany Wait was the main offense for the Wildcats in the first
half, as she scored 13 of her team high 15 points. Laura Meadows was the
only other UK player to reach double digits with 12. Only one Kentucky
player failed to score in the game. Eastern was again led by Charlotte
Sizemore with a game high 16 points. Unfortunately, no other player was
able to reach double figures in scoring. Jennifer King did manage to record
10 rebounds to lead both teams.
EKU goes from the frying pan into the fire Thursday, as they host OVC co-leader Tennessee Tech at 6:30. The Golden Eaglettes will be looking for revenge, as the Colonels defeated Tech, 76-71, back on January 21 at Cookeville. Eastern will face another co-leader, Saturday, as Middle Tennessee will venture into McBrayer Arena for a 2:00 game.
