RICHMOND, Ky. - Eastern Kentucky University senior guard Marla Gearhart has been named Ohio Valley Conference Co-Player of the Week for her play in last weekend's Holiday Inn Beach Blast Tournament at Wilmington, NC.

Gearhart, a 5-9 senior guard from Olive Hill, KY, registered a game-high 22 points in the Lady Colonels' 88-57 victory over North Carolina A & T in the consolation game of the Holiday Inn Beach Blast, hosted by the University of North Carolina-Wilmington.

In the opening game of the tourney, a 64-59 loss to host UNCW, Gearhart finished with 18 points. For her 40 points scored in the tourney in the two games, Gearhart was chosen to the Beach Blast All-Tournament Team.

Gearhart, who leads the Lady Colonels and who is second in the league in scoring with her 17.1 per game average, hit 14-34 from the field, 5-11 three-pointers and 7-8 free throws in the two games, while handing out five assists and picking up four steals.

Besides being ranked second in the OVC in scoring, Gearhart is first in the conference in assist-turnover ratio (3.00), third in assists (4.2), fourth in three-point field goals made per game (1.90), eighth in three-point field goal percentage (.365) and ninth in steals (2.0).

Eastern, 4-6 overall and 1-0 in the OVC, takes a two and one-half week break for the Christmas holidays, returning to the hardcourt Jan. 6 to host league school, Middle Tennessee, in McBrayer Arena at 6:00 p.m., to be followed by Tennessee Tech at home, Saturday, Jan. 8, at 2:00 p.m.
